The systems installed by ACAS Engineering, made up of nearly 3km of pipework, were as follows:

Compressed air system

  • Full HPC/Kaeser system with oil-flooded screw compressor
  • Complete with drying and filtration to class 1.4.1
  • Press-fit stainless-steel pipework from 54mm down to 22mm

Mains water system (for drinking and food product cleaning)

  • 10,000L buffer tank
  • 2 off Grundfos vertical multi-stage (run & standby) pumps
  • Fine filtration with option for UV treatment
  • Press-fit copper pipework from 66.7mm down to 15mm
  • Press-fit stainless-steel pipework in production areas

Cold water system (for sinks, wash-down and hot water system feed)

  • 3,500L buffer tank
  • 2 off Grundfos vertical multi-stage (run & standby) pumps
  • Coarse filtration
  • Press-fit copper pipework from 66.7mm down to 15mm
  • Press-fit stainless-steel pipework in production areas

Hot water system (for sinks and wash-down)

  • 2 off 1,500L calorifiers
  • 2 off Grundfos vertical multi-stage pumps (one per calorifier)
  • Coarse filtration
  • Press-fit copper pipework 66.7mm to 22mm (flow), 54mm to 15mm (return)
  • Press-fit stainless-steel pipework in production area

Hot water production

  • 2 off Bosch 300kW commercial boilers
  • Enclosed primary circuit with circulation pumps and plate heat exchanger (PHE)
  • Secondary circuit with circulation pumps feeding into calorifiers
  • Full control system to operate boilers and circulation pumps

Low-pressure hot water system (office central heating)

  • 40 off radiators installed and piped up
  • All existing pipework modified or replaced where required
  • Previous boiler removed and provision for connection to new boilers made

Office welfare facilities

  • Existing gravity-feed system repaired and recommissioned
  • All toilets and sinks reconnected following facility refurbishment
  • Drinking water outlets installed from new Mains water system

Chilled water system

  • Glycol circulation system to feed chilled water to air handling units (AHUs)
  • 2 off Grundfos, large, variable-speed, vertical multi-stage (run & standby) pumps
  • Circulating 25% Glycol solution through a chiller feeding 3 off AHUs
  • AHUs used to cool production areas through ducting and wall plenums
  • Press-fit stainless-steel pipework from 108mm down to 45mm

Controls system

  • Centralised control panel with running and error notifications for all pumps
  • Level display and pump control system for each tank including dry-run protection
  • Connections for BMS if required

All systems

  • All 3-piece stainless steel valves
    • Negates the need for unions therefore reducing costs
    • Prolongs service life reducing costs and system downtime
  • All variable-speed pumps with Bluetooth connectivity
    • Maximum energy efficiency reducing costs and carbon footprint
    • Negates the need for flow control valves reducing costs
    • Increases efficiency of systems
    • Maximum system control
  • All high-flow filters
    • Maximum service life
    • Increased system efficiency

ACAS Engineering worked alongside several other contractors to ensure that the project was delivered exactly to client specification and functioned at the highest possible levels of efficiency and reliability, ensuring the client could proceed without concern for years to come.
